Dermal cylindroma is a common benign adnexal skin tumor. The most common location is scalp (almost 60% of cases) but the tumors may also be seen on the trunk and extremities. Rare locations include orbit, ear canal, abdomen, and breast. There is a marked female predilection.

In pathology, a cylindroma is a tumour with nests of cells that resemble a cylinder in cross section.

These disorders have an autosomal dominant inheritance, meaning half of an affected individual’s children will also have the condition. Dermal cylindroma. These two tumors are very closely related and overlap. Many tumors have areas of both spiradenoma and cylindroma. The lobules of cylindroma are small more consistently discrete, show more a more consistent arrangement of the light and dark cells and are; often surrounded by prominent hyaline material. Malignant cylindroma can occur in the Brooke-Spiegler syndrome, and malignant transformation is more frequent in multiple variants than in solitary tumors. Its histopathological basis is controversial, and its origin is unknown, although it is known that there is a genetic basis for onset of these tumors in Brooke-Spiegler syndrome.
